HJC RPHA 11 Kylo Ren
Customer review by Mike Bond
I've mostly been using AGV helmets over the last 10 years or so. I was in the market for a new helmet, and Phill at All Revved Up Motorcycles suggested that I try on an HJC RPHA11, and I'm glad that I did.....
The RPHA11 comes as standard with a clear visor, a road legal light smoke visor and a pinlock insert. You'd normally have to factor in an extra £50-£75 as you don't usually get these included with other manufacturers, a nice bonus.
The RPHA11 feels a lot lighter to handle and wear than my old AGV. Once on, the RPHA11 is very comfortable and has a good size eyeport. The vents are easy to operate with a gloved hand, and the pair of top vents have multiple positions and can be adjusted from closed to gale force and everything inbetween.
There is a latch system built into the visor which securely locks the visor in the closed position. Again, this is easy to operate with a gloved hand, and it prevents the visor from suddenly opening of its own accord at high speed. Visor changes take seconds thanks to a simple quick release system.
The RPHA11 is also fitted with a nice safety feature. The cheek pads can be removed using the bright red emergency tabs on the underside whilst the rider is still wearing the helmet. This feature has obviously been included to minimise the risk aggravating spinal or neck injuries during helmet removal after an accident, and is a nice touch that I haven't seen before.
I own a Hayabusa and a Super Duke, two very different genres of motorcycle. The RPHA11 is aerodynamically stable at high speeds on both bikes. Turbulence at very high speeds used to blur my vision on the 'Busa, but this doesn't happen since I started wearing my RPHA11.
The HJC RPHA11 is basically a high end helmet for midrange money. I don't know of another helmet on the market that has such a favourable price / quality ratio.
